January 31 Google Part 2

What: we went through how to make a classroom website. We also learned how to create different pages on that site, including: filing cabinets, calendars, announcements, and inserting quizzes and spreadsheet/forms onto the page. We were assigned different tasks to complete on our own website.

So What: Again technology is changing. The internet is available to most everyone outside of school and to everyone at school. So making sources and calendars for students to use will help them to have a different way to keep up on assignments. I love that idea because the students who are sick will be able to keep up with what is happening in class. Learning these skills helps me to feel more comfortable on the web and understand different skills to help my students learn and grow.

Now What: Now I will be able to set up a neat website for my class! This website can be full of different tools that will be useful to me and to my students. I can set up different ways that my students can review for quizzes and test. They can see easily what it is I am expecting out of them. If they lose or misplace an assignment they can get on an print of another assignment which takes work away from me as the teacher. I need to also keep up with the technology as I continue so that 10 years from now I am not still working with the same technologies (overheads)

January 24- Google Part 1

What: We learned how to navigate through google, we looked at gmail, and chatting on gmail. we also took an in depth look at google docs! we were sold on the many benefits of google docs and its many perks. and were were given the assignment to mess with and explore all of the documents

So What: As teachers we will constantly be needed to adapt technology into the classroom. And why not? technology makes things so simple stuff that took hours now takes minutes! Learning about google docs will help a lot to make more tools available to me and to my future students. what is amazing is it enables someone to make a document and then make it a website in a click of a button!

Now What: Now i will contine to try and soak in all the knowledge that i can. the more that i mess with and practice using tools like google docs the more i will be able to more fully help my students and benefit them.

January 17- Introduction

Alright so why did i choose history as my course content area? This is a great question that i continue to ask my self every time that receive an essay assignment from any of my teachers. I have known for a long time now that i really wanted to be a teacher and to be a part of the students lives to help make learning fun and meaningful. so teacher came easy. Through the years i have taught swimming lessons, and coached volleyball, both experiences telling me that teaching was the right direction for me.

The content area was a trickier situation. I started at snow thinking that art would be a great subject i had always loved art both for fun and for class. so i majored in art for two years. When i transfered to UVU i was sad to find out that they did not yet have a art teaching program. So like i said i knew i wanted to teach, so i chose a different subject and i chose my second favorite subject History. I thought that i could still add in little bits and parts of my love of art seeings how art and history go together very very nicely. i also found out that i was good at history and the more i learn the more i continue to grow in my love of history.
